Did someone scream "Fire!"

If you were at worship on Sunday you experienced a definite first for me as a pastor. Immediately before worship began the fire alarm box started making some funny noises. Myself and a couple others tried to figure out what the matter was. Nobody smelled smoke or saw flames, so we ignored it. Well, the noises persisted as we began worship (the loud beaping definitely makes it hard to focus during the 60 Seconds of Silence). Well, right as I was getting ready to absolve everyone's sins...the fire alarm had had enough and went off with the lights going crazy. I absolved the sins as quickly as possible, and we all mosied out to the parking lot. After a phone call to the alarm company, and the pushing of many buttons we finally silenced the beast and worship was able to continue.
We were able to come back, pray, and continue worshiping. It reminds me that there are so many distractions that the world throws at us that gets in the way of our worship. We must be aware and able to resist, and when it's a fire alarm that distracting you...know that God's Spirit is strong and He is strong enough to pull us back into His presence with loving arms and refocus us back on Him.
So, thanks to all who were flexible with the inconvenience, and if you missed worship on Sunday...you missed an interesting one...who knows what this week has in store for us?
