approaching normalcy...

Last week at the Community Group I had a bit of an epiphany.  I noticed that the gentlemen who were there had shaved off their mustaches.  It took me aback for a second, but I realized that this is how those men had always looked....and as my mustache begins to fade back into a beard again, my mind is turned towards normalcy.  It made me think of Psalm 19 where God's glory is compared to the rising and setting of the sun...normalcy...routine.

I figured that Sarah and I have had family in town for around 3/4 of the month of July.  We love our families dearly, but we are looking forward to normalcy...routine.  Summers are filled with joy, laughter, vacation, friends, family, newness...change....life.  But soon, summertime will be over (that is...the summer mentality...you all know that we're going to have blazing heat well into the "fall").  Sometimes we look at the routine to come with a bit of distaste, but when we look at Psalm 19, we see that God finds joy in the normal...in the routine.  God causes the sun to rise and set every single day...no vacations...it's always there without fail.  God finds joy in causing the sun to rise and set everyday.

Can we find joy in the ordinary...the everyday?

I think we can.  So as the sun rises and sets over the next few days, as your mustache goes away, and as kids' minds begin to look towards the school year I hope that you find joy in the everyday normal activities of your life and that you find a deeper spirituality in normalcy.
